Dr. Ian K. Smith is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Clean 20Super Shred, Shred, The 4 Day Diet, The Fat Smash Diet, and Extreme Fat Smash Diet, plus 7 other books including, SHRED Diet Cookbook, EAT, and Happy. He is a former co-host of Emmy-winning “The Doctors” TV show, a medical contributor to “The Rachael Ray Show,” and host of the nationally syndicated radio show HealthWatch.

 

Dr. Ian is the former medical correspondent for NBC News network and for NewsChannel 4, where he appeared on NBC’s “Nightly News,” “The Today Show,” and various WNBC news broadcasts. He has appeared extensively on TV–“The Oprah Show,” “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning,” “The View,” “The Talk,” “Dr. Oz,” ‘Dr. Phil,” “Anderson Cooper 360,″ and “Showbiz Tonight.”

 

A highly-sought after speaker, Dr. Smith’s work has been honored by several organizations, including the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, for his coverage on the momentous events beginning on Sept. 11, 2001.  He is also very active in charitable causes.

 

Dr. Ian K. Smith is the founder of two major national health initiatives—the 50 Million Pound Challenge and the Makeover Mile—which have helped millions of people lose weight and improve their health. He served as the medical/diet expert for six seasons on VH1’s highly-rated Celebrity Fit Club. He is a national advisory board member for The Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity.  Dr. Smith has also served on the boards of the American Council on Exercise, the New York Mission Society, the Prevent Cancer Foundation and the New York Council for the Humanities.

 

He has written for various publications, including Time, Newsweek, Men’s Health, and the New York Daily News. He has been featured in several other publications, including Publisher’s Weekly, Red Book, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, People, Essence, Ebony, University of Chicago Medicine on the Midway, Cosmopolitan, Women’s World, and Black Enterprise.

 

Dr. Smith graduated from Harvard College with an AB (class of ’91) and received a master’s in science education from Teachers College of Columbia University. He attended Dartmouth Medical School and completed the last two years of his medical education and graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
