Afterburner Incorporated has trained over 1.5 million executives and managers in its Flawless Execution ideology, which applies military principles such as efficiency, capability, and perfection to business teams and corporate staffs. Using the Three E’s—“Empower, Equip, and Embed,” the Afterburner Inc. team delivers keynote speeches to businesses all over the world, holds teamwork-building training sessions, and even helps elite military professionals transition into civilian careers.
U.S. Air Force fighter pilot James D. Murphy had always regarded military principles as applicable to successful businesses. In 1989, as he endured 18 months of intensive training, he realized that the process the Air Force employed to train him so quickly and efficiently could be used for corporations as well. The foundation for Flawless Execution was set.
After leaving active duty, Murphy boosted the sales of a small paint company from $5 million to $52 million in less than three years using the Flawless Execution ideology. He consequently established his own company, Afterburner Inc. in 1996. Murphy and his team of elite fighter pilots delivered their Plan-Brief-Execute-Debrief cycle to companies all over the world through keynote speeches and team-building seminars. By 2003, Inc. Magazine had mentioned Afterburner on their 500 List of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies twice.
In 2005, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel John A. Warden III trained Murphy in his Prometheus Process, which was the plan behind Instant Thunder, the successful air campaign against Saddam Hussein in 1990. Using principles from the Prometheus Process, Murphy completed the final model of Flawless Execution.
Murphy has authored two books: Business is Combat and Flawless Execution. Murphy and the Afterburner company appear regularly in publications such as Newsweek, Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, and have been featured on CNN, CNBC, and Fox News.
Today, Afterburner Inc. heads various training programs and consulting services for corporations. Afterburner Inc has delivered its services to approximately 23% of the U.S. Fortune 500, businesses in 34 countries, and many Global Fortune 1000 companies.
